The sun may not be shining but the corridors are swarming with guides and scouts as we have begun celebrating spring in London with our “Celebrations Around the World” event.
Participants from across the United States and the Arab Region have been enjoying a week of activities at Pax Lodge and in London, celebrating festivals and events that take place around the world.
Celebrations Around the World events include five nights of accommodation in a twin or shared room, meals (including breakfast, packed lunches, and dinner), transport during the event by bus and underground, and activities and entrance fees as scheduled during the programme including a trip to the theatre. Other Celebrations Around the World include autumn celebrations on 2010 October 26 – 31 and winter celebrations on 2010 December 15 – 20.
After welcoming the participants with a traditional British cream tea we allowed the participants to get acquainted before joining us in an interactive international evening programme. Julia (Austria), Nour (Syria), Christable (Ghana), So Yeon (South Korea) and Alison (Canada) led the group in a night of international games, songs, activities, and more.
“The London weather may be unpredictable in the spring time, but one thing that is for sure is that we are having tons of fun at our spring celebrations. It is a unique experience to connect with people from across the globe and celebrate together,” says Julia, our Event Assistant from Austria.
We started off the day with our daily flag ceremony before heading to the Girlguiding UK headquarters and Changing of the Guard ceremony inside the gates of Buckingham Palace. To celebrate the Centenary year we took a coach tour through London’s famous landmarks as we headed to our final destination at Crystal Palace Park to explore the Centenary Maze.
More exciting events and activities will continue for the next few days as guests join in a festive Easter egg hunt around Pax Lodge, decorate hard-boiled eggs, and enjoy the enjoy the spring flowers as we celebrate this year’s “Plant” theme for the centenary.
