Region Representation at Pax Lodge Complete

4 February 2010

It is official! Pax Lodge has become the final World Centre to have all five regions (Asia Pacific Region, Africa Region, Western Hemisphere Region, Europe Region, Arab Region) represented by Resident Volunteers. It comes at the perfect time as we have begun celebrating the centenary of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting and the achievements of WAGGGS and its members.

With the welcoming of three new volunteers at Pax Lodge we have successfully accomplished our goal of having each region represented at Pax Lodge.Pax Lodge has all five regions represented

“When we ask our guests, volunteers or event participants why they choose to come to a World Centre, the majority of responses we receive is because they want an international experience. This is gained through the diversity of our team. That is why it is so fantastic to have all five of the WAGGGS regions represented here at Pax Lodge,” says Grace Farrelly, World Centre Manager.

Resident Volunteer, Sari, landed in London a little more than a week ago, saying, “It’s just like a dream to be able to work here. I can tell you that every girl who is belonging to Girl Scouts or Girl Guides should have the chance to work here with the lovely staff from all over the world.”

Sari has spent over twelve years in Scouting and became a leader of a group of Junior Scouts in her hometown of Tokyo (Asia Pacific Region). Joining her is Nour an active leader for a Scout group from Syria (Arab Region), Alison who has been involved with Girl Scouts in Canada for many years (Western Hemisphere Region), and Sophia who is our Guest Services: Office Volunteer from Nigeria (Africa Region).

Our World Centre Manager adds, “The international element adds so much to the experiences of everyone that comes through Pax Lodge’s doors. This ranges from the international activities we offer our guests during one of our events to simply finding out about different cultures whilst sharing a meal. I have personally gained so much from living, working and meeting people from many backgrounds and cultures and hope that many others can benefit from these experiences at Pax Lodge too.”

Pax Lodge and the other World Centres put a strong emphasis on programming to educate and build international awareness to our visitors. Our volunteers play a crucial role in successfully planning and executing these programs. Laura, a volunteer from Denmark (Europe Region), has been a Green Girl Guide for eight years and is using those experiences to lead young guides and scouts through important activities that introduce them to WAGGGS objectives and international Girl Guiding and Scouting.
